By MAJOR-MINOR  - their new collection linen is grown, woven and sewn in Europe.
European Linen

Our Baltic mills are undoubtedly among the most highly regarded linen producers in Europe. They’re nestled in the coastal regions among centuries-old flax fields, and owned by the same family of artisans for generations. Known for exquisite fibres and ethical and sustainable farming practices, authentic Baltic linen is world class. Our sources are family-owned and members of the European Confederation of Linen, using ecologically sensitive means, clean technology, and a nod to the time-honoured methods of cultivation. They've been perfecting their craft since the 1920’s, and they produce some of the most beautiful weaves we've ever seen. Specifically, our linen yarns are made from high quality long fibre French and Belgium Flax. Our product is then woven, dyed and sewn in the Baltics - the regions that are best know for their history and expertise in producing the highest quality linens.
Production

Not all linen is created equal. Lots of other brands will advise they use French, Belgian or European Flax. In most cases, this just means the flax plant was grown in Europe and the linen was not actually milled in Europe at all. We think this is very confusing for consumers and doesn't really provide the full story behind the product. Many of these cheaper linens are produced in more unregulated markets and can contain chemicals such as silicons and formaldehyde. Formaldehyde is a chemical that has been linked to illnesses and cancer. Some use these harmful chemicals to make the sheets feel softer before you first wash the product, others use it to keep linen wrinkle-free or as an anti-fungal agent. Make sure you ask where your linen is made, if the information is not provided on the website or product.
Harvesting

Harvesting methods and the length of fibres have a profound impact on quality and durability, and we’ve carefully selected our mills for the most thoughtful artisan processes learned over generations. Lower quality producers, large retail chains and less expensive linen brands often take short cuts in this arena, resulting in poor durability and rougher textures. Our suppliers all grow their flax in Western Europe, in France, Belgium and the Baltics. Rather than using cheaper chemical treatments, a time-consuming and highly effective combination of sun, rain and dew is used to slowly separate the fine fibres from the coarse parts of the plant. Fibres are then sorted and graded based on length. For superior quality, we insist on long length fibres, ensuring the very best longevity and texture.
OEKO-TEX Certified

All MAJOR-MINOR new collection linens are made from OEKO-TEX certified linen. The certification ensures the human-ecological safety of textile products in all stages of production (raw materials and fibres, yarns, fabrics, end products). Products that are OEKO-TEX certified are absent of allergenic dyes, pesticides, heavy metals and other harmful substances.
